Pern Dragonet Concept

Description

You'll probably see a lot more pernese concept art from me for the next little while. I've never had a solid grasp of what they look like in my head, and everytime I draw them the ylook a little different.

I read something recently though about firelizards, specifically about their wings. That they were a boron crystalline structure, so I decided to make them look more like insect wings than bat wings. They still have the 3 finger and a thumb structure (the thumb is incorporated into the flight-bearing membranes), and I really like the outcome. I think this sort of structure would make sense for a Dragonet as well. You know how when you break a piece of an insects wing off how it doesn't bleed? Well, since Dragonets live in a thread-heavy environment, if they were to get hit with thread it wouldn't damage them as much, and the thread would likely pass through them without eating away at as much of membrane.

Granted it wouldn't be as stretchy or flexible as skin stretched between the fingers, but dragonets are relatively small and, unlike Dragons, don't need to carry huge mass through the air. I figured that the way their wings are made would have been changed in the genetic altering to make them capable of bearing more weight, thus the stretchy skin between dragon wings which, of course, bleed when damaged because skin and connective tissue needs more upkeep than near-dead crystalline structures.

I'll probably shrink the head-knobs in the refined version of this sketch, as they're a bit too big for a plain Dragonet I think.

Very pretty! I'd love to see a fully coloured drawing with those wings, transluscent and with a slight iridescent sheen.
